Pilgrimage to the Relics of the Holy Martyrs Cosmas and Damian

On Sunday, 10 June 2018, the faithful of the Dortmund and Düsseldorf parishes venerated together the relics of the Holy Martyrs and Unmercenary Physicians Cosmas and Damian, kept in Essen Cathedral.

The Akathist to the holy Cosmas and Damian was served by a group of priests that included Protopresbyter Iosif-Cristian Rădulescu, Fr. Ispas Ruja, Fr. Siluan Cârstea, and Deacon Ovidiu Marius Cioară. Before and after the service, the faithful reverently venerated the relics, asking the saints for healing of soul and body.

In his sermon, the protopresbyter reminded everyone that the relics of the saints are a living witness to the true meaning of life: the deification of the human person, our eternal union with God, and the filling of a person with God’s glory—a glory that does not leave them after bodily death, but becomes a source of strength and healing for believers.

As spiritual patrons of physicians and givers of healing for soul and body, the holy Cosmas and Damian bestowed much spiritual joy on the pilgrims.
